5 Horror Games to Play During the Halloween Season to Make Your Heart Race
There are no rules that you can't play a horror game at any point of the year, but we can all agree that it just hits differently during Halloween. The air grows crisper and the nights arrive earlier—the perfect time for the supernatural to come out and play. Or, in this case, setting the mood for you to play with them in a virtual world.
Ahead, find five horrifying video games to play this October that will seriously make your heart race.
Five Nights at Freddy's
The highly anticipated Five Nights at Freddy's adaptation in a little over a week, so why not revisit the video game that started it all? At its core, you'll try to spend, well, five nights at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, an abandoned pizza entertainment center with murderous animatronics. But beyond the game's original objective, it's filled with rich lore and plenty of spin-off games to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Little Nightmares II
In the first Little Nightmare game, we meet Six, a young girl trying to bypass the Maw, an intense iron world. The prequel introduces Mono, who finds Saw and brings her along with him as he tries to return to safety in a glitched universe. When you reach the end of a game, an unexpected plot twist is revealed, prompting the first game's story.

Phasmophobia
There's nothing more fun than being able to experience jumpscares with your friends. In this paranormal co-op, you will work together to investigate the spirits haunting the area. It also has the option for virtual reality, so you can engage in a truly intense, immersive ghost-hunting experience.
The Last of Us
Much like Five Nights at Freddy's, The Last of Us received an equally spine-chilling adaptation this year. Though Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey won't take you through the apocalyptic universe, you still will enjoy the franchise's thrill—unruly zombies and lots of drama as Joel and Ellie try to survive the new reality of an apocalyptic United States.
The Mortuary Assistant
As the new assistant at a mortuary, your job description says you'll be embalming corpses. But what your boss doesn't tell you is that the building is haunted, and the corpses often become possessed. This puzzle-based game will have you on your toes with hundreds of jumpscares from the unfriendly "patients." Make the right choices, or you might not get the ending you want…
