5 Underrated Careers in Entertainment You Should Know

If you graduated this year, you've probably been spending weeks thinking about what you're going to do with the rest of your life. We know there can be an immense level of pressure to make such a decision at a young age.

We grew up loving celebrity culture, but no one ever told us that it was possible to work alongside some of our favorite stars, and it's all due to our jobs in the entertainment industry! Below, we've found five careers you should consider if you also love pop culture.

A&R

A&R, which stands for artist and repertoire, is basically the backbone of the music industry. These are the people who find artists and send them over to record label executives, but their jobs don't stop there. A&R is also responsible for helping select singles and develop who that person is as a musician.

More than likely, if you're interested in music, you've probably heard the names Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid. These are two notable A&R executives who've worked with some of your favorite artists like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, One Direction and Fifth Harmony.

Publicity

Publicity is a great way to look at many sectors of entertainment because publicists often work with musicians, actors, gamers, models and brands at the same time. As the name suggests, publicists help clients get their names out to the public, usually by scheduling interviews and partnering with professionals to increase press. At the same time, you also have to make sure that what's said about your client is positive and strategize damage control if not.

Though this should not be your sole reason for going into publicity, many stars (like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé) are known to have close relationships with their publicists, so choosing this career path will give you an exclusive look into the celebrity lifestyle without the personal pressure of fame.

Casting

Casting directors are the A&R of the television, film and modeling industries. They often have to vet actors and models through auditions to decide if they would be the best person for the project and occasionally will have to scout talent for more niche roles. If you've ever wondered how Tom Holland got cast as Spider-Man or Zendaya became the face of Euphoria, casting directors had a powerful role in bringing them to your screens.

Literary Agent

Did you grow up being obsessed with books? Well, becoming a literary talent agent might be up your alley.

Literary talent agents often scout new novels that they will believe perform well and help send them out to publishing houses. Literary talent agents can also negotiate deals for authors and help them turn their books into television or film adaptations. This job requires a lot of reading, so you will need to love it to be the most successful.

Talent Booking

Like publicists, talent bookers dip their hands into everything.

These are the people responsible for tying your favorite celebrities to events. For example, talent bookers got BLACKPINK to Coachella and are the ones who allowed Jimmy Fallon to interview Billie Eilish. Often, talent bookers will work with publicists and other entertainment companies and arguably have more control over the situation. Rather than trying to get your client seen, talent bookers will decide who can be seen.
