10 Must-Watch Films To Watch During Halloween That Aren’t Scary

We have to admit it. We're scaredy cats. But we still love Halloween so much we might even consider it our favorite holiday. Keeping that in mind, we like to have mild spooks, including with our movies.

If you're like us and prefer something more tame than The Conjuring or Midsommar, continue reading. We have 10 movies that perfectly embody Halloween without the jumpscares and gore.

The Addams Family (2019)

There's nothing we enjoy more than an animated movie, and 2019's The Addams Family is one of the best cartoon adaptations of an iconic story. Starring Oscar Isaac, Finn Wolfhard, Snoop Dogg and more, the film shows the family of seven forced to protect their home when a crooked TV personality plots to take over the neighborhood.

Beetlejuice

It took us more years than you'd guess to watch Beetlejuice because we thought it was scarier than it was. Really, it's a feel-good movie about a couple who enters the afterlife and unexpectedly befriends the daughter of their home's new occupants. Along the way, they get into a sticky situation with a bio-exorcist, Beetlejuice, who may or may not be looking for trouble.

The Boy Who Cried Werewolf

The Boy Who Cried Werewolf has to be one of the most underrated made-for-television movies that Nickelodeon created. In this comedy horror, Jordan Sands, played by Victoria Justice, and her family relocate to Romania after learning their ancestor left a mansion for them. Jordan and her brother transform into wolves and must learn how to survive in their new lycanthropic lifestyle.

Casper Meets Wendy

Of all the Casper movies, Casper Meets Wendy is our favorite. This movie was one of Hilary Duff's first major films—and she captured our hearts with her charisma and bond with Casper the Friendly Ghost. Along the way, they must take down an evil warlock.

Coraline

We might be in the minority who believe this, but Coraline is a deceivingly scary movie. However, it's very loved (that we can still appreciate), so it had to be on this list. This dark fantasy story follows Coraline Jones as she discovers an alternate universe of button-eyed clones. After entering the Other World, her doppelgänger parents desperately attempt to trap her there before kidnapping her actual parents. Coraline must find a way to cross back into the real world and close off the Other World for good.

Harry Potter

Inherently, Harry Potter isn't a Halloween movie, but we can't resist turning it on every year. All the witches and fantasy creatures scream Halloween. Besides, you can do the ultimate binge to watch Harry, Ron and Hermione go on intense adventures to protect Hogwarts.

Haunted Mansion (2023)

In the new Haunted Mansion film, a mother and son are confronted with all types of spirits after they move into a mansion in New Orleans. Desperate for peace, they hire a priest, psychic, historian and paranormal tour guide to cleanse their new home. But as the threat of an evil ghost reaches its peak, the group must work together to banish him to the underworld forever.

Hocus Pocus 2

In Hocus Pocus 2, the witches are back. After the Black Flame candle, sisters Winifred, Sarah and Mary come back to life and are ready to terrorize Salem. Hopefully, the town's teens can save the day once and for all.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

There isn't much Halloween music, but The Nightmare Before Christmas hosts some of the best spooky tunes of the season. In this electrifying musical, Jack Skellington tries to take Santa Claus's job after entering Christmastown. But when things don't go how he planned, Jack learns the importance of his specialty (Halloween) and must return the balance of the holidays.

Twilight

Twilight: possibly the greatest love story ever told. A vampire becomes enamored with a mortal and turns her into his own kind. This movie was revolutionary for the aesthetic—and the soundtrack tied it all together.
