5 Must-Watch Musicals Touring Around the United States in 2024

Once you watch your first musical, your life will be change because there is nothing more magical than a night at the theater. Decadent costumes, feel-good music and flawless line delivery—what's not to love? And it's impossible not to be impressed by their ability to create a memorable show every day.

Whether you are a newbie or a veteran to the acting world, here are five must-watch productions touring through the United States this year. Like they say on the stage, "It's time to get this show on the road!"

The Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue

Sadly, we lost our last Golden Girl, Betty White, at the end of 2021. That doesn't mean we forgot the sass and charm of the original quartet. You can relive the chaos on the stage in this new stage adaptation of their mischief, written by Robert Leleux. We can already predict the laughs certainly will continue from the hilarious preview clips.

Mamma-Mia! The Smash Hit Musical Based on the Songs of ABBA

In case you didn't know, Mamma Mia! was a stage play before it became the Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried-led movie we know and love. It hasn't been in North America for a few years but will debut today, Jan. 9, at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska. Check out their website to see if they'll come to a city near you in 2024.

The Notebook: The Musical

Ah, yes. We always love it when iconic movies are adapted into stage productions, and The Notebook is one you won't want to miss. Ingrid Michaelson ("You and I," "The Way I Am" and "Girls Chase Boys") wrote the music for the play. And Michael Greif (Dear Evan Hansen) and Schele William (The Wiz) will direct the play. It's currently previewing at Broadway, but here's to hoping it'll tour later this year.

The Outsiders: A New Musical

Speaking of adaptations, watch Ponyboy Curtis and friends bond in their search for life's meaning in this reimagining of S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders.

Already, the musical received nominations from the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Awards and glowing reviews from the Los Angeles Times. It's got a hefty creative team, with casting by esteemed office Tara Rubin Casting and music by musical duo Jamestown Revival—and it's produced by Angelina Jolie.

The Wiz

The Wizard of Oz is one of the most adapted stories of all time, and The Wiz might be our favorite, so you can only imagine our excitement when we learned it was reviving this year. We had the chance to see it last year, and every second was amazing. The cast had so much chemistry—even the villains were likable—and the script had effortless humor.
