Everything We Know About The Originals Spin-Off

This month started off on a heavy note for many of us, with The Originals airing its series finale on Aug. 1.

Our hearts were crushed when The Vampire Diaries ended last year, and now we're feeling the pain all over again with The Originals being dunzo now, too.

There's a silver lining in all of this sorrow—our beloved The Vampire Diaries spin-off is getting its own spin-off called Legacies. To say we're stoked would be the understatement of the century.

We're not ready to let these shows die, so this spin-off is our only hope. Just as excited as we are? Scroll below for the rundown on everything you should know about this supernatural series!

The Cast

Legacies will feature plenty of new characters with fresh storylines, along with some beloved characters from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.

Danielle Rose Russell will return as Hope Mikaelson (the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall and the titular character of the series). Matthew Davis will reprise his role as Alaric Saltzman, and we'll also be introduced to a grown-up version of his twin daughters, Lizzie and Josie Saltzman.

While we're ready to dive into the world of these new characters, we're also thrilled by the amount of classic characters that will also make an appearance. According to IMDb, both Steven R. McQueen and Zach Roerig—who played Jeremy Gilbert and Matt Donovan on The Vampire Diaries—will be making an appearance on the show. And from the trailer (which we'll get to in a minute), we spotted Danielle Gillies and Phoebe Tonkin—who played Elijah Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall. We hope some other beloved characters will make their way into a few episodes, but we'll have to wait and see.

The Crew

The series was created by Julie Plec. If that name sounds familiar, it's because it should. Julie is responsible for adapting The Vampire Diaries book series into the show we know and love, along with creating The Originals. We couldn't be more elated she's onboard to write and executive produce our soon-to-be favorite new series.

Chris Grismer (a director for both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals) and Brett Matthews (a writer and producer for The Vampire Diaries) are also back to work on this new chapter in the saga. It's safe to say Legacies is in good hands.

The Plot

Legacies is set at Salvatore Boarding School in Mystic Falls, where our cast of mystical characters are taught all about how to control their powers and much, much more. The occupants of the town believe it's a school for troubled rich kids, but it's a safe space where witches, vampires and werewolves all come together as one. It may sound peaceful, but we know there will be plenty of drama to come. At least, we can only hope.

If you haven't already, be sure to watch the trailer to immerse yourself in the magic of this series already.

The Release Date

The best part about all of it is that we don't have to wait all that long before the show airs its first episode. Legacies is slated to premiere Thursday, Oct. 25 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. A little over two months and we'll have a brand new series to obsess over. And what better way to get hype for Halloween than by watching it?

Legacies isn't the only new show we're not so patiently waiting for this fall. We've already started the countdown for the premiere of Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. HERE's everything you need to know about it!
