The Top Video Games Arriving on Nintendo Switch Later This Year

The second half of 2023 is gearing up to be a thrilling time for Nintendo Switch players.

In just a few days, Disney will unveil their latest side-scrolling game, Illusion Island, and just a few months later, we'll get a new generation of Super Mario Bros. and a remake of Super Mario RPG. That's only scraping the surface of what's to come, so continue reading to see a few of our favorite games coming out later this year for all types of players.

Disney Illusion Island – July 28

With how much we enjoyed Disney Dreamlight Valley, we are intensely anticipating the release of Disney Illusion Island. While Dreamlight Valley reminds you of Animal CrossingIllusion Island will bring all the nostalgia of a classic 2D Super Mario Bros. game, but instead of saving Princess Peach from Bowser's castle, you'll be following Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy on a magical journey to the island of Monoth. You can play with up to three friends, so start thinking about which of your fellow Disney-loving friends will help you triumph!

Fae Farm – Sep. 8

Can we all just agree that farming simulations are slowly taking over the gaming industry? And yes, we're very excited about it. Our love of this genre started with games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, and now, we see it expand to all kinds of new art styles and storylines.

Arriving next is Fae Farm, where you transform into a magical fairy, meet new characters, and develop your own world on the enchanted island of Azoria. Like most new simulation games, you can travel to your friend's world or build your story alongside friends and family locally.

Detective Pikachu Returns — Oct. 6

Couldn't get enough of Detective Pikachu? Well, get ready. On Oct. 6, its sequel, Detective Pikachu Returns, drops. In this new game, Ryan Reynolds' Pikachu returns to solve more mysteries in Ryme City. There aren't too many details on the release right now, but if it's as fun as the first game, you'll want to keep your eyes peeled.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Oct. 20

Super Marios Bros. Wonder might be our most anticipated drop of 2023. So far, it looks like Wonder will contain all the classic elements of a Super Mario game, from the side-scrolling gameplay (though they redesigned and modernized the visuals for more dimension) to action-packed adventure. This time, you won't be restricted to Mario, Luigi, and the Toads. Peach and Daisy are officially added to the roster—hopefully, that means new character advantages and even more chaos.

Hogwarts Legacy – Nov. 14

After multiple delays, it looks like Hogwarts Legacy will finally arrive on Nintendo Switch on Nov. 14. As proud Hufflepuffs, we're more than ready to transport ourselves to the wizarding world of Hogwarts in a new action-packed RPG. This exciting game will bring you back to one of the earliest eras of the magic school, before Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. You'll become the top wizard you've always dreamed of while saving Hogwarts from an impending fatal threat.

Super Mario RPG – Nov. 17

Nintendo is finally reviving Super Mario RPG with a remake, and it looks intense.

In Super Mario RPG, Mario, Bowser, Peach and original characters Geno and Mallow form an unlikely alliance to take down the Smithy Gang. If you didn't play the original, there's a whole set of new battles with new mechanics and a new vibrant world to explore. Whether you want to relive the nostalgia of the '90s game or to discover a different type of Mario game altogether, we imagine Super Mario RPG will be fun for everyone at all levels. It's also a single-player title, so you'll be able to work at your own pace and hone your skills.
