Bored With Your Long Hair? Check out These 5 Trendy Cuts

We've worked so hard over the past few years to have the healthy, long hair of our dreams. But why is it that once we finally reach our goal, we crave change again? We're resisting the urge to go scissor-happy by cutting an impromptu bob, throwing all our effort down the drain.

Thankfully, we have multiple options for switching up our look while retaining its length, thanks to all the innovative styles we find across TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest.

If you've got an itch to find something new, too, continue reading to discover the best cuts to add life to long hair.

Butterfly Cut

The "butterfly cut" has been the most popular hairstyle on TikTok for the past few years. If you haven't heard of it before, we promise you've seen it because it was also one of the iconic looks of the '90s.

Essentially, a butterfly cut offers layers that are voluminous and face-framing (as opposed to all-around layers in the back). Think Rachel Green from Friends. It's slightly shaggy but timelessly elegant and suitable for all face shapes. Plus, you can retain almost all your length.

Curtain Bangs

If layers aren't your thing, bangs are always an option. That said, bangs can also feel dangerous and adventurous. Before cutting blunt bangs, we suggest going for something softer and lighter, like curtain bangs. They offer the face-framing effect of a butterfly cut without the excess layers, swooping to the sides of your face like a curtain.

We love curtain bangs besides they flawlessly blend back into your hair and out of your face, which is important if you decide you're not into them.

Hime Cut

The hime cut is not for the faint of heart. This Japanese hairstyle adds blunt bangs (optional) and a chin-length layer. When executed well, the hime cut will accentuate the shape of your face while providing youth and fierceness. It's definitely polarizing, but we think it's adorable and makes a confident statement with any outfit and makeup look you pair it with.

Modern Mullet

The mullet has returned. While the controversial haircut was mostly worn by men in the '80s, stylish women are transforming our view of it in 2024. These days, you'll find short, feathered bangs over choppy, thin layers. With it, you'll always have a charming, sultry edge.

Wolf Cut

The wolf cut might be the most underrated of them all. It's like the perfect middle ground between the butterfly cut and a mullet. It has soft, face-framing layers (similar to the butterfly), but most of its weight stays around the face. You can retain your length with itโ€”but much like the mullet, it'll get significantly lighter with each layer.
