10 Things You Should NEVER Text Your Crush

Oh, the never-ending struggle of texting your crush.

You never know what to say, and you're constantly worried you'll come off as either overbearing or uninterested. It's a true art form walking the thin line that divides the two.

While we can't be there to hold your hand through this process, we can offer some sage advice. Keep scrolling for 10 things you should never text your crush!

1. 'Hey.'

This is the easiest thing to not only text your crush, but anyone. And there lies part of the problem. It isn't personal, nor does it illicit a response. They'll likely hit you back up with a "hey" of their own and you're right back where you started—trying to figure out what the heck to text them now.

2. 'I Love You!'

We're pretty sure this one is self-explanatory. Don't send your crush a text proclaiming your undying affection for them. It's just weird and they'll feel so uncomfortable. Plus, they'll likely ignore the text and you for the rest of your life. Some things are better left unsaid.

3. 'Thinking of You!'

Another off-putting thing to text someone you don't know that well, the reason to not send them this is because it's creepy. They won't find it cute or endearing that you're randomly thinking of them mid-afternoon on a Wednesday.

4. Something You Shouldn't Know About Them

If you found out something about them from their social media or from someone else, do your very best not to bring it up. They won't find it cute that you know these things about them in the slightest.

5. Something Super Personal About Yourself

Telling your crush your fave movie or go-to dance move is fine and a pretty good way to break the ice, but don't dive deep into too many personal details about your life. Keep things light and casual, not serious and somber.

6. A Text Asking If They Received Your Previous Text

Sometimes it takes a while for your crush to get back to you. We know it's stressful, but just breathe through it and you'll be fine. As much as you want to follow up with them making sure they got your last text, refrain from doing so. If they want to respond, they will. If they don't, oh well.

7. Only One-Word Responses

We get that you want to keep your cool and not come off too eager, but you don't have to respond with only one-word texts. If you do this, they'll likely get the feeling that you're uninterested and stop texting you all together. That's not what you want, is it?

8. Too Many Responses at Once

This one obviously depends on what your crush texts you. If they send you five different texts that all require some sort of response, you can send them five texts back. But if they just ask you how you're doing and you respond with 15 different texts, that's overkill.

9. A Random Emoji

Emojis have their place in every conversation, but just sending your crush one out of the blue will only leave them confused. Maybe they'll think it's funny and send you one, but that's highly unlikely. They'll probably take one look at it and leave it be.

10. Anything About Your Ex

We know there's an "ex" in "text," but don't be the one to bring it up in the convo. No one wants to hear about your ex, especially someone you're crushing on. They'll think you're still into your ex, even if you know you're not. Leave those former flings in the past.
