10 Things You Should ALWAYS Buy at the Dollar Store

There's no denying that things are getting more and more expensive, which is why we're always looking for a deal.

These days, most dollar stores don't even offer their goods for just a dollar, and if you shop at these bargain shops regularly, chances are that you've already seen for yourself that sometimes, you get exactly what you pay for. At the same time, there are dollar store items that are a genuine steal, which is why we always buy certain goodies there. Curious? Keep scrolling for our list.

Pens

While we don't buy new pens often, when we do, it's always from a dollar store. That's because these shops stock the exact same reliable brands as other retailers for a fraction of the price. Plus, they're always sold in bulk, so you can lend them out without fretting.

Organizers

We're often shocked by the variety and versatility of organizer options at dollar stores, especially in comparison to bigger retailers like Target. From little plastic stacking crates to tote boxes, dollar stores have all kinds of storage solutions for making your spaces look neat and tidy for no money at all. We tend to go a bit overboard with the organizing pieces, but our rooms have never looked better.

Stickers

When you think of dollar store stickers, you might think of the generic happy face and star stickers that kindergarten teachers slap onto assignments, but that's only part of the picture. Most dollar stores also have great branded stuff, from Disney characters to other classic cartoons, that you just know would be way more expensive anywhere else.

Crafting Supplies

If you're like us, you've spent way too much cash at high-end art supply stores only to abandon your new craft project after a week. Instead, we recommend starting with the dollar store versions of these crafting supplies. They're not always the best quality, but you'll save a lot of hard-earned money on half-baked endeavors, and if you do actually get into the hobby and decide to pursue it seriously, you can then decide which pieces to upgrade and invest in, and which ones from the dollar store are good enough to keep using.

Hair Accessories

Of everything we've ever owned, hair accessories tend to be the ones that disappear on us the most. From elastic hairbands to bobby pins, scrunchies and even cute claw clips, they seem to vanish without a trace. That's why we've stopped spending the big bucks on more expensive versions that do the same job and instead opted for the dollar store versions. That way, we can lose them without an ounce of guilt or regret.

Toothpaste

You'll always be able to find at least a couple of recognizable name-brand toothpastes on the dollar store shelf, and often for about a third of the price you'd be able to get them elsewhere. Just because you got the toothpaste super cheap doesn't mean it won't do the same job to whiten and protect your teeth and get your breath smelling fresh.

Gift Bags

When it comes to gifting and festivities, dollar stores will start saving you the big bucks. For example, dollar stores tend to have cute gift bags in all sizes for all occasions, from holidays to birthdays and just-because events, for a low and consistent price you won't see anywhere else. Even tiny gift bags usually start at about $6 at other stores, so this one's a no-brainer.

Greeting Cards

Greeting cards are another of our dollar store go-tos. Scan the greeting card section at most stores and you'll find that most cards start at about $5, while most dollar stores will let you snag two cards (plus envelopes) for just $1.25. The cardstock usually isn't as thick and the cards aren't fancy, but the content of the card is of similar quality, and that's what truly counts.

Balloons

With the ongoing helium shortage, we don't know how dollar stores still manage to stock fully inflated mylar balloons, but you won't find them anywhere else for even close to the price. You might not get the same selection as you would at a party store, or be able to buy to a specific theme, but you also won't spend $50 or more for a set of eight just balloons. Plus, these balloons always stay inflated for days and days after you purchase them.

Party Plates and Utensils

Lastly, if you're throwing a party and want to keep things fun and colorful, dollar stores will have you covered every time. You can get everything for table settings, from tablecloths to paper plates and matching utensils, in coordinated or mix-and-match colors, all for a small fraction of what they'd cost at a party supply store. We love the way these goodies can make a celebration look expensive when the preparation was anything but.
