Thomas Day on Discovering Himself Through Heartbreak and the Meaning of ‘Come Home’

We have yet to meet a Thomas Day track we didn't love, and with his triumphantly heartbreaking new single "Come Home," he's never been better.

The Nashville-based singer-songwriter dropped the new track on Friday, complete with an emotional music video. Thomas puts his spectacular vocals front and center as he transforms heartrending pain into an irresistible pop track about coming to terms with the loss and brokenheartedness in your life, and growing through the hurt with gratitude. It's healing music, and we had the pleasure of chatting with Thomas all about it to find out more. Read the full interview with him below.

The Story Behind 'Come Home'

Thomas Day: I wrote "Come Home" while I was out in Los Angeles. The week before, I had been sitting at home and reflecting on the past—the first time I was lied to, the first time I felt heartbreak, etc. I felt out of life and energy. When I got to L.A., I was writing with my friend Jesse Fink and PomPom. I am always someone who has worn my heart on my sleeve, so I immediately started to talk about the weight of everything I was currently feeling, and the idea for the song evolved naturally from there.

What 'Come Home' Means

TD: This song has a lot of meaning behind it. Everyone experiences sadness, and I hope that this song can be a step in the right direction of healing and understanding that everything you go through is significant to making you who you are. I hope "Come Home" helps people understand themselves a little bit more.

Thomas's Favorite Lyric

TD: "Some things are better broken." I just think it perfectly sums up what I'm trying to capture with the song. It's where the heart of the song comes from.
