Thomas Nicholas Talks His Band’s New Record Deal and Upcoming Single, ‘Tomorrow’s Gonna Hurt’
Thomas Nicholas Band has been together for 15 years, releasing six albums and performing over a thousand shows, but they just announced one of their biggest milestones yet in the form of their first-ever record deal with SBÄM Records.
Led by frontman Thomas Nicholas, perhaps best known for his role in the American Pie series, the fan-favorite pop-punk band is celebrating their big deal with brand-new music. They're gearing up to release their seventh album in May, and one week from today, on Oct. 19, the band will be releasing their first single with the label, "Tomorrow's Gonna Hurt." Ahead of the big day, we got to chat with Thomas all about the song, signing to a label and the future of the band. Read the full interview below.
Sweety High: What is the story behind "Tomorrow's Gonna Hurt"? What inspired you to write it?
Thomas Nicholas: A couple of years ago was the very first time I was hanging out with Taylor Carroll. We were just supposed to go for a drink. We ended up closing out the bar and then sitting in my truck for two hours while he played me the advance copy of Lit's album Tastes Like Gold, as well as his then-unreleased songs with Kemikalfire. We talked about writing together at some point, and now he's producing my seventh album. But the bottom line is, every time I go out, I'm always the last one to leave the party—no matter how much I'm gonna pay for it the next day.

SH: What does the song mean to you, and what do you hope it will mean to your listeners?
TN: For me, the song is about having a good time no matter what's going on in our lives. I hope that anyone playing the tune is having that good time while they are listening!
SH: What's your favorite lyric from the song? Why?
TN: My favorite lyric is, "But my Venmo's got some money saved," 'cause I can't tell you how many times I'm checking all my digital wallets to see which one I can use to pay for this or that. I think it's a very relatable moment for us all in 2023.

SH: What does it mean to the band to be newly signed to SBÄM Records?
TN: I'm very excited to be working with SBÄM. I really have to give a shout-out to my friend Jaret Reddick. I know that writing/recording "1999" with him last year is what put me on the radar of SBÄM, and he put me in touch with them to be in their documentary, which is where they learned about my band. Stefan came to see us at The Whisky to grab some footage, and now they are releasing my seventh album.

SH: What's next for the band?
TN: We have a lot of fun tours coming up to support the release of the singles and the album itself, starting with some sideshows at When We Were Young festival, a few tours in the U.K., returning to the Emo's Not Dead Cruise and a couple of tours in Germany and Austria, which will land us at the SBÄM festival for the official release of the seventh album onto CD and vinyl.

SH: Is there anything else we should know?
TN: For those of you that don't know, that is, in fact, Jaret Reddick's voice narrating my new TV series, UnderDeveloped, that is currently streaming on Tubi and Amazon Freevee. And yes, that is my son, Nolan River, starring in Episode 2 as Tom Arnold's son.
