Tips from TikTok to Help You Have the Best Year Yet

While TikTok might be our top pick for apps we use when we want to waste time, it's also packed with a surprising amount of great tips and helpful advice.

Not everything you hear on the app is worthy of listening to or trying out, though, which is why we've collected a number of the best tips that can help you have the best year yet in 2023. Whether you're looking to upgrade your career, friendships, relationship status, confidence or all of the above for a total glow-up, it's time to forget your FYP for a moment and take a look at these:

1. Set Goals

Whether you set them for the day, the week or the month, setting some goals and staying serious about them can help you stay on track to have the best year yet. Figure out what works best for you, but we recommend setting goals for each month rather than shorter or longer time spans since that allows you some space to fail and pick things back up again. After all, it's totally normal to get things wrong at first, no matter what your specific goal may be.

2. Visualize What You Want

This one connects strongly to goal-setting, but it's a big enough tip we saw all over TikTok that we decided to give it its own point on this list. If you don't know where to begin, don't underestimate the power of a good old-fashioned vision board. Whether you make yours physical or just create one quickly on Pinterest, visualizing what you want, whether it's in your head or in front of your face, can help you to remember what it is you're trying so hard to achieve, and that will help motivate you to actually achieve those things.

3. Practice Gratitude

While it may seem like a small thing, that's actually kind of the key to making this tip work. Kind words help set your brain up to notice more good things, and that can help you change your mindset all around for a better life. Going over the things you're grateful for (even the tiniest of seemingly trivial things) goes hand in hand with mindfulness, and that's something we can't stress the importance of trying enough when it comes to your mental health and overall well-being.

4. Stop Wasting Your Money on Things You Don't Need

"Deinfluencing" has been all over TikTok lately, and it's a trend we hope sticks around for the long run. The tips we've learned from creators doing it go beyond just which products are worth skipping the next time you hit up your nearest Sephora or Ulta, too, as there's an overarching message that you don't need to buy something just because someone who's probably getting paid to tell you about it tells you to. If it's something you've heard great things about or that you just really want to try for yourself, by all means, go for it, but be mindful about why you're buying something and whether or not it actually adds value to your life.

5. Set a Routine (and Actually Stick to It)

Routines aren't always the most fun at first, but trust us (and tons of TikTok creators) when we say that it's so worth it to get into one. It doesn't have to be a major shift right from the start, but you can try simple things like waking up a little extra early each day to make breakfast, stretch and/or journal to set yourself up for success early on. A routine can go beyond just your basic daily habits, too, as it can also involve setting time aside for friends, schoolwork or anything else that you can let sneak up on your life and cause you stress otherwise. A pro tip? Use the new healthy habits in your routine to replace any bad ones you've been trying to kick for a while.
