This No-Makeup Makeup Tip Is a Game-Changer
The no-makeup makeup look is perfect for summer. It's clean and fresh, but let's face it–it can be a lot harder to execute than one might think.
The goal: to look like you're barely wearing anything. But the reality is, there are a lot of products needed to achieve gorgeous, glowing skin and eyes that pop. So, what's the secret? Here's a step by step guide to nailing the no-makeup makeup look.
1. Exfoliate and Moisturize
The star of the no-makeup makeup look is your skin, so you have to take care of it! Especially during the summer when the days are longer and the sun is hotter. Make sure you're moisturizing day and night and exfoliating once a week with something like St. Ives Fresh Apricot Scrub ($5) to keep your skin in great shape.
2. Start With a Glowing Base
Dewy skin starts with the first layer. This step is so overlooked! Try using a primer with light reflecting properties, like NYX Born to Glow Illuminating Primer ($14) for a subtle, all over shine. If you're not the primer type, you can always add a pump or two of liquid highlighter like Becca Shimmering Skin Corrector ($41) to your BB cream.
3. Keep the Coverage Light
If you can skip the foundation all together, do it, and just use concealer to spot treat under eye circles and blemishes. This will give you the most natural look. If you don't feel comfortable going totally without coverage, try using light to medium coverage BB Cream or tinted moisturizer. We're living for Tarte Amazonian Clay tinted moisturizer ($36.)
4. Go Natural With the Bronzer and Blush
Some say to skip this step all together when creating a no-makeup makeup look, but we think a little bronzer and blush looks great and natural when done right. Start with a bronzer only two shades darker than your skin tone, and sweep it in a diagonal motion under the cheek bone. Don't go overboard! You can also lightly dust the forehead, jaw bone, and sides of the nose for a very light contour. For the blush, give yourself a light flush by applying a warm peach shade to just the apples of the cheeks. Blushed By Too Faced is as awesome quality as it is cute!
5. Highlight
The most crucial step, and the most fun! You can either use a cream highlighter–we totally dig RMS Living Luminizer ($38)–or a powder highlighter like Pur Cosmetics Afterglow ($25). Both forms are great! Apply the highlighter along the cheekbone, down the nose, above the cupid's bow, and under the brow bone. And to make your eyes sparkle, add a touch of highlighter to the middle of your eyelid at the lash line and the inner corners.
So those are the five key steps, but feel free to add on a coat of mascara, perk up your eyebrows, and swipe on a nude lipstick or gloss to finish the look. Also, keep your face glowing and hydrated all day long by keeping a facial mist in your purse. I reccommend Mario Badescu's insanely addictive Facial Spray ($7.)
