Toosii Shares the Inspiration Behind His Viral Hit, ‘Favorite Song’
Toosii's "Favorite Song" may be less than a month old, but it's already proven itself to be one of the runaway hits of 2023, and we just know we're going to keep hearing it everywhere as the year continues.
With its dreamily romantic sound and instrumentation evoking the very best in lovey-dovey R&B, the track is an ode to real love. Through his vulnerable lyrics, he shows that there's nothing more appealing than a man who's completely unafraid to show his affection for the one he adores, openly and purely. He reminds us that there's nothing wrong with having high standards and demanding a relationship that's loving and compassionate, and there's nothing more romantic than that.
Clearly, we're not the only ones who are in love, because the song has been absolutely viral. It recently hit the Billboard Hot 100 and has been sitting comfortably toward the top of Apple Music's Top 100 chart, while racking up more than 12 million streams on Spotify, and more than 4 million on YouTube. It also has been used as a sound in more than 180k TikTok videos—and we're confident it's just getting started. We just had to learn more about the stunning song, and Toosii very generously told us all about it in the following interview.
The Story Behind 'Favorite Song'
Toosii: The story is about women having desires and needs for certain things that they look for in men to supply. Growing up around women and being raised by women, I feel like I always knew those things. A situation someone close to me was going through is what inspired me to write the song.

What 'Favorite Song' Means
Toosii: I hope "Favorite Song" guides men in the right direction to understand that it's alright to be the man of a woman's dreams while still being dominant. It's alright to do the nice things like flowers, it's alright to tell a woman she's beautiful and it's alright to tell her you love her for no reason.

Toosii's Favorite Lyric
Toosii: "I say you look good without no makeup, no lashes, even better when you wake up." The reason I say that is because I don't think women often get told how beautiful they are naturally. We live in a very high-standard generation where they hold you to these standards where you've gotta have fake hair or fake lashes and makeup. When in reality, a lot of these women look the best when they're natural.
