6 Tips for a Successful Relationship With a Capricorn

If you're dating a Capricorn (born between Jan. 21 and Feb. 20), chances are you've already noticed they're in a league of their own.

Caps have a reputation for being disciplined, loyal and hardworking—sometimes to a fault—which can be complicated for those who crave more personal time together or just want to let loose. Truly, not everyone is cut out for a relationship with the conventional Capricorn. Below, we've shared six tips for a successful partnership with a Capricorn, as well as some reason it might not be meant to be.

Be Patient

Patience is a virtue—especially when it comes to dating a Capricorn. Of all of the signs of the zodiac, they're probably the most discerning when it comes to telling the difference between a fleeting crush based on attraction and an actual relationship built on something lasting and authentic. They don't fall in love fast because they're looking for the real deal. It can take some time to win a Capricorn heart, but once you do, you can expect true loyalty and affection in return.

Commitment Is Essential

Not ready to commit? Then you shouldn't be dating a Capricorn. When the sign begins a relationship, they do it because they're serious. They're not ones for flings and casual dating, instead seeking out a partner only when they're ready to settle down and create something stable and secure. If you're not there yet yourself, either shift your attitude or stop wasting their time.

Embrace Tradition

Capricorn can be a bit old school when it comes to dating and relationships, which is great if you're also ready to embrace tradition. They might have strict ideas about what your roles will be in the relationship, and even things like holiday celebrations and family customs. It's important to have a discussion early on about whether this is what you both want. They can be stubborn about the things that are important to them, but you should be also. It's better to know early on whether neither of you will be willing to budge.

Understand Their Work-Life Balance

Capricorns are infamous for being all work and no play. They're often highly career-focused, with a desire to have a good job, make plenty of money and be able to provide for their loved ones. Of course, when they're in a dedicated relationship, learning to manage priorities becomes extra important. In the right relationship, you will come first when it matters most, and it's important to discuss this balance and figure out a happy middle ground, compromising on something that works for you both. Because they tend to be true to their word, you can call them out when they don't stick to their side of the bargain. In the meantime, it's also important you can both be independent and pursue your own passions.

Create Some Structure

Adamantly sticking to structures and routines in your relationship might seem boring on the surface, but it's key to building a lasting relationship with a Capricorn. It's also a great way to create expectations that you can both rely on, from the dull and tedious stuff like chore wheels to the fun stuff like date nights and travel plans, to further ensure balance.  Just make sure that if they have you on their calendar that you don't unnecessarily change plans or postpone your time together, because that's one of their greatest pet peeves.

Rely on Each Other

Trust and reliability are key in all relationships, but especially ones with a Capricorn. They'll be there for you if you're there for them, expecting the same predictability, consistency and security they provide in return. It's an ever-evolving process, so it's important to talk about your expectations together and stick with them, even if that means making adjustments from time to time. When unexpected surprises do pop up, this will mean you'll be able to deal with them as a team, both on the same page, paving a future where you can handle anything that might be thrown your way.
