8 Big Tips for Successfully Dating an Aries

The arrival of spring also marks the start of Aries season (March 21 to April 19), and we're all feeling that impulsive and refreshed Aries energy.

If you're crushing on an Aries (or already dating one) you've likely already noticed that this is their time to shine, and after a long and slow winter, they're more than eager to jump into things with a running start. Aries is an exciting sign known for their passion, enthusiasm and unbridled energy, but their fiery side can also be challenging. Whether you're still in the talking phase or totally official as a couple, we have some important tips for you for managing a successful relationship with an Aries.

Let Them Court You

Not dating just yet? It may help to know that Aries typically prefer to chase, rather than be chased. As the first sign of the zodiac, they prefer to act first, and that includes making the first move. Of course, you don't want to act disinterested and make them feel like your heart can't be won. Feel free to flirt and get close, displaying your interest and comfort around them, but don't be afraid to play a little hard to get, as this might endear them to you even further. Acting cool and confident, even when you're nervous, can go a long way, and once you do say yes to Aries' romantic gesture, let them take the lead.

Be the Even-Headed One

Aries have a reputation for being the hotheads of the zodiac. They can be fiery and impulsive, and while, as their partner, you don't want to fully douse their flame, you will want to temper it by staying calm, collected and even-headed when things get heated.

Aries are likely to express their negative emotions, including sadness, frustration and fear, as anger, and sometimes they need a sounding board to help them better understand these feelings. It helps to have someone around to ground them and channel them in a more productive way. They can also be ridiculously stubborn, so patience is a virtue with them, and they can struggle in relationships with people who stoke that fire even further to make them even more excitable and aggressive.

Keep Things Fresh and Exciting

One of the reasons Aries is always starting new things is because they get bored easily. They crave novelty, and can struggle with things get too comfortable, familiar and consistent. The key to preventing this stagnation in the routine of a relationship is to make an effort to keep things fresh and exciting.

This starts with embracing spontaneity. Aries are happiest when they're not forced to sit still, so jump at opportunities to do new things with them. That can be anything from checking out a new hiking spot, park or museum, seeing a movie or live show, or just testing out a different restaurant or untested flavor of ice cream. Freshness is key, so be open to new things and a little daring yourself—even if you'll never quite match up to Aries' level of thrill-seeking—as a way to show you care.

Be Passionate

Aries can be pretty intense about the things they care about, and they love to be with someone who's equally passionate. But this doesn't mean they they want you to follow them around all the time and act enjoy all of the same things they do. In fact, they'll probably get a kick out of you not caring for something they love, especially if it can inspire a friendly yet heated debate.

The fire signed is fueled by genuine care and interest in things, so love what you love fiercely, and don't be afraid to share that with them. You'll be able to bond over the fact that you're both dedicated to your interests, inspiring great conversations and allowing you to agree to disagree on silly things. After all, Aries are chatty folks who love to banter.

Get Moving Together

If there's one sign of the zodiac known for being active and athletic, it's Aries. While not every person who falls under the sign is super sporty, chances are that establishing a good routine of being active together will strengthen your bond and make you both feel happier and healthier in the long run. Join them as their adventures, whether that's practicing some skills for their sport of choice, heading to the gym together for workout sessions or even simply heading outside for walks and hikes. Show them you're willing to sweat a little, and that even if you can't keep up with them, you're willing to try.

Keep Up a Friendly Competition

Competitive Aries love a little friendly (or not so friendly) rivalry, and that's true even in their relationships. Challenge them when you can, whether it's in board games, video games or even little tests of knowledge, and push each other to be the best you can both be. Aries love to win, but that doesn't mean you have to let them. They actually prefer overcoming obstacles and can't stand an empty win. No matter how much they try, there are probably at least a couple of things you can best them at. Trying to beat them at their own game can be half the fun.

Be Assertive

Just because Aries like to be in control and can be a bit self-involved doesn't mean you can let them have their way all the time. It's also important to remember that a relationship is a two-way street, and it can take an assertive and confident personality to ensure that they don't call all of the shots. Be sure to regularly affirm your own wants and needs and get on the same page with them in order to find a happy middle ground. This may be difficult at first, but Aries also respect people who speak up speak up for themselves, and you'll be glad you didn't keep quiet.

Maintain Your Own Personal Life

Aries can easily start to feel smothered in a relationship that's about spending all of your time together. They struggle with clingy partners, and if you're the type who needs someone to basically take care of you, Aries is ill-suited to the role. However, just because they're fiercely independent doesn't mean you have to be. In addition to learning to rely on yourself, you can also lean on friends and family, in addition to your partner, and maintain a personal life beyond the relationship. Having a support network is beneficial, in addition to having specific personal goals, whether they're related to your career, hobbies or self-development.

Giving them the space they need, and learning to cherish your own space, can strengthen the bond you have even further when you are together. It can give you the life experiences to cheer them on when they're working toward their own ambitions, and make moments when you can rely on each other extra special.
