3 Out-of-the-Box Valentine’s Day Date Ideas for Couples
The last thing any of us want to be is ordinary—especially in the eyes of our significant others.
When it comes to wowing our parters, it's pretty common to want to do something original—something that'll impress them. With Valentine's Day coming up, it's time to start brainstorming how you're going to celebrate the big day with your babe. Should you go to a fancy restaurant? Buy them a giant teddy bear? Honestly, the options are limitless and it can get pretty overwhelming.
It's important to not get lost in the grandeur of the holiday and focus on the important thing—your S.O., of course! So, if you want to truly impress them this Valentine's Day, use one of these three out-of-the-box date ideas the two of you can enjoy:
1. Outdoor Movie Night
If you've ever been to a drive-in movie theater, you know it just hits different. It's an unparalleled experience that simply can't be matched. Sitting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn is fun and all, but when it comes to Valentine's Day, you need to step up your A-game. Instead of having a normal movie night, go the extra mile and create your own version of a drive-in theater.
If you have open space in your backyard, find a way to hang up a white sheet. It can be draped over a fence, nailed to a wall or any other creative method! If you don't have any room outside, just find a blank wall in your house, instead. On the ground, lay out lots of colorful rugs, blankets and pillows—the more the merrier. Gather your S.O.'s fave snacks so they'll have ample options to choose from. Hang twinkly lights around the area and light candles for a dimmed look. Then, set up a projector. Your parents might have one hanging out in the basement, or, you could go the modern route with this option from Cinemood, a mini, portable projector that can be controlled from your phone.
Finally, choose a movie for the two of you to enjoy together. Even more points if you choose one of their favorites. They'll appreciate the thought, time and effort you put into making them happy.
What You'll Need:
– Projector
– Movie
– White sheet
– Lots of blankets and pillows
– Snacks
– Twinkly lights and candles
2. Escape Room
Are you familiar with escape rooms? Essentially, an escape room is a game meant for groups of people, where puzzles, mysteries, questions and more are involved. Players are often taken through multiple tasks, typically being led on to the next one when the other is accomplished. The goal is to find the (typically physical) key to escape the room you're trapped in.
We know, it sounds crazy to some people. Why would you pay to be trapped in a room and freaked out? It's a pure adrenaline rush and is seriously so much fun to enjoy with friends or significant others. Plus, it's a great bonding experience and opportunity to grow your relationship even more. You'll be able to see your partner in "life-or-death" situations, and it'll be super interesting to see how they react! TBH, if you don't take it too seriously, you'll have lots of laughs and will enjoy your night spent together.
What You'll Need:
– Tickets to an Escape Room
– Your brain turned to full-function
– A positive attitude

3. Shopping Competition
If shopping's involved, you can bet we're signing up. For this date idea, we suggest having a couple's shopping competition. But what exactly does that entail? Basically, the idea is to find out who knows who better. What you'll first need to do is find a trusted person, like a parent or friend, come up with a series of questions for the two of you to turn in. You will know what you put down as your answers, but you won't have any idea of your partner's answers. Questions might be something like, "What's your S.O.'s favorite candy? Buy it." Depending on the budget you decide on, you can do small things like that or go a little bit bigger.
Make sure the person assigned with creating the questions also chooses a place for the competition to take place. If the questions are mostly food related, it should be at a grocery store. If it's an array of things, opt for a farmer's market or even a shopping mall. We think this date is the most fun if you do it together. In the end, tally up the number of questions you answered correctly. The winner gets bragging rights!
What You'll Need:
– Set up a budget
– Have someone you trust to come up with questions for the two of you to answer. Since they will have the questions and answers, you won't be able to cheat ahead of time since you didn't ask them yourself!
– Create a time limit
– Choose a place for the competition, like a mall, a grocery store, a farmer's market or something else.
