Protect Your Lips AND Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth With Vacation Lip Trips

As I've gotten into a serious skincare routine over the past couple of years, I've also embraced the importance of daily sunscreen wear.

Even on days I don't go outside and it's pouring rain, I've made sure to wear a light SPF in order to protect my skin from light, indoors and out. I've also seen firsthand what benefits that has for my skin. But one thing I don't always remember to use is an SPF for my lips—after all, I don't exactly want to smear my typical sunscreen all over my lips.

But Vacation, Inc. is here to solve that little problem. Their new set of Vacation Lip Trips: Desserts, which launched today, Feb. 1, is designed to soothe and protect lips while also satisfying your sweet tooth. I was sent the collection early for a chance to try it out myself, and my lips have never been happier. Here's why.

The Brand

Vacation, Inc. is well-known for their gorgeously scented sunscreens, and are known for having the "World's Best-Selling Sunscreen." They're all about ensuring that keeping your skin safe feels fun, instead of like a chore you'd rather skip.

And their newest release, their Vacation Lip Trips: Desserts collection, is all about applying that same level of care and protection to the lips. These broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen lip balms don't just protect skin and help prevent sunburn, but they're also delicious. They come in five fun flavors inspired by classic and nostalgic resort desserts from around the world. They're also water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, as well as vegan and cruelty-free, made with a plant-based formula using coconut oil, jojoba oil, cocoa butter and aloe vera, plus candelilla wax and sunflower seed wax.

They're available for $5 each or as part of a deluxe five-flavor collector's set for $25—and the super retro packaging, which looks like it was ripped straight out of the past, is worth springing for the whole thing.

The Balms

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

I started my Lip Trips adventure with the Pineapple Upside Down Cake flavor, and after twisting open the tube and applying it to my lips, I was already hooked. The formula was firm but went on smooth and clear, making my lips feel hydrated and soft, but mostly, I loved the bright pineapple flavor. Somehow, this balm manages to capture the tropical, tangy essence of pineapple and meld it with a hint of cake flavor to create something super delicious.

Now, most of the time I just wear this at my desk, but on the occasion I've taken these balms out, I've made sure to follow the directions. They should be applied at least 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapplied at least every two hours—or after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating. Since using these, I've found that my lips have been getting less chapped and dry. Maybe I've accidentally been burning my lips my entire life! And even out and about, the balms haven't melted at all in my handbag—though it's winter in the north, so I haven't yet put them to the test in super sweltering temperatures.

After Dinner Mint

Next up, it was time to try the After Dinner Mint flavor. I was especially looking forward to this one because I can't get enough of puffy, sugary pillow pints, and this balm perfectly captured that flavor. I will warn you, however, that if your lips are a little dry when you apply it, you may feel a bit of a peppermint tingle on your lips afterward. I find the effect cooling, but some people may find it irritating.

Bananas Foster

Next up was Vacation's take on the classic New Orleans dessert, Bananas Foster, and this one also surpassed all of my expectations. While I was anticipating the sweet, fruity taste of bananas, I didn't also expect the flavors of brown sugar and caramelized butter to come through so strongly. This is one that'll definitely be making you lick your lips again and again—but that will just remind you to keep applying it, keeping your lips protected all day long.

Bombe Alaska

I'll have to admit that I had to look up what a Bombe Alaska was before trying this balm, but the unique ice cream cake covered in meringue looks like a dream. This balm, too, is quite heavenly, tasting of sweet vanilla, marshmallow and cake. If you love anything vanilla-flavored or scented, this one will have you hooked.

Strawberry Jello Salad

And last, but certainly not least, was the Strawberry Jello Salad balm, which is sure to satisfy even the pickiest of fans. With a sweet flavor blending strawberries and cream, it's just impossible to resist, and of all of the balms, I think I've found myself turning to this one most often when it's time to reapply.

Bottom Line

If you're serious about sun protection, you need some SPF lip balms in your arsenal, and Vacation Lip Trips might be the best ones available at the moment. At $5 a pop, they're reasonably priced while offering incredible and unique flavors and keeping your lips safe all at once. They're seriously like a vacation in a tube, and if you have a sweet tooth, you're bound to find at least one you adore, and I can't recommend them enough.
