A Definitive Ranking of the 10 Most Popular Vegan Ice Cream Brands

Vegan ice cream options are good and plenty these days.

There are new ones lining the frozen dessert section of our go-to grocery stores all the time, but they'll never replace the classics we cherish deeply (in our stomachs).

After experiencing a hankering for some non-dairy ice cream and spending some time deciding which brand to purchase, we decided the world needed our ranking of the 10 most popular vegan ice cream brands. Because why not?

Scroll below to see where your favorite falls on our list!

10. Trader Joe's

As much as we love Trader Joe's and their line of products, their vegan ice cream isn't where it's at. They have two flavor options, strawberry and vanilla. Needless to say, the variety is a bit, well, vanilla. They're also fairly bland in taste, so we're not too fond of this brand. But we love everything else you have to offer, Trader Joe's.

9. NadaMoo!

NadaMoo! has some fun flavors that most other vegan ice cream lines don't, but they never live up to the hype. They also freeze over so quickly and basically become ice if you don't eat it fast enough. We can eat a pint of ice cream in no time at all, but sometimes we want to save a helping for later. That's definitely not something we can do with this brand.

8. Halo Top

Halo Top has some pretty delicious flavors, but their non-dairy ones don't quite do it for us. They're virtually all chocolate-based and taste the same, even though they're meant to be different. We're also not big fans of the fact that the amount of calories in one pint is staring us directly in the face when digging into some ice cream. They may be fairly low in calories, but still. We don't want to know all the bad we're consuming.

7. Van Leeuwen

We wanted Van Leeuwen to be a little higher, we really did. But when it came down to it, their vegan ice cream just didn't compare to the rest that's out there. While their flavors are sinfully delicious, they're often always so sugary. The texture and everything is great, don't get us wrong, but we can tell we'll get a cavity from our first bite. Not to mention, their vegan line is sometimes harder to come by in the grocery stores. Though it probably protects our teeth, sometimes we don't mind sacrificing our pearly whites to satisfy our craving.

6. Coconut Bliss

We've been trying to think of something more thorough to say about Coconut Bliss other than it's good ice cream. But that's really all we can think to say. The line has a bunch of different frozen desserts that are good. There's nothing super standout about their products, but they're solid ice cream. We can't complain, but we couldn't talk about the line for hours on end.

5. Tofutti

When most people think of vegan ice cream, they probably think of something exactly like Tofutti. Everyone equates everything about veganism to tofu, even ice cream. We should note that there isn't any tofu in Tofutti's frozen dessert products. Many non-vegans who eat Tofutti will admit it's better than they expected, but for us vegans, we know there's better out there. Still, Tofutti is a staple, and their cones are the perfect treat to enjoy on a hot summer's day.

4. Talenti

Talenti doesn't have a lot of vegan flavors (only listing three on their site), but what they lack in variety, they make up for in flavor profile, texture, and all around goodness. Their Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto is where our obsession with this brand really began. If we could only bring one vegan ice cream with us on a deserted (desserted?) island, it'd definitely be that one. If there's any way to get a lifetime supply of this good stuff, someone please let us know. Our mouths are literally watering right now just thinking of the decadent swirls of rich peanut butter and fudge melting in our mouths… yum!

3. Dream

Almond and coconut and rice, oh my! The Dream brand features ice cream lines with a variety of milk bases. They also serve their non-dairy frozen desserts in forms that aren't just pints. A pint of ice cream is generally our go-to, but sometimes we want a bar or bites. That's where Dream comes to the rescue. Our favorite product is their dessert bites. From the way the chocolate melts in your mouth, to the creaminess of the ice cream, they're what dreams are made of. We worked really hard to make sure that pun made it in this description.

2. So Delicious

So Delicious has been a staple in our freezers for quite some time now. It was there for us after some tough heartbreaks and elevated the celebration when we had something to commemorate. Their extensive line of flavors even features different milk bases. If you're not a fan of soy milk, you can try their cashew, almond, or coconut milk-based non-dairy frozen desserts. Other than their plethora of delicious flavors, their texture and creaminess are really what get us. Most vegan ice creams will get really icy right away, but not any in the So Delicious family.

1. Ben & Jerry's

While Ben & Jerry's isn't exclusively vegan, their line of non-dairy ice creams are everything. The second they announced the first four flavors, we knew they would be the best vegan ice cream to ever grace our lips—and, sure enough, they were. Currently, they offer 11 different non-dairy options that are all out-of-this-world delicious. There's not a single flavor we've tried that let us down. One bite, and we're ready to finish the whole pint—which we'll shamelessly admit to doing more often than we'd like. The only thing that could make Ben & Jerry's better is if they added more flavors. Specifically, Phish Food. Once that gets a vegan counterpart, we'll be the happiest vegan campers.
