Exclusive: Blues TikTok Sensation Vella Performs an Acoustic Version of ‘Blue’

If you're not already a fan of Vella, here's your chance to become obsessed.

The Florida-based blues artist and TikTok sensation recently released her gorgeous single "Blue," featuring R&B icon Macy Gray. And it's not just an instant classic, but a song that gives back, as Vella and Macy are donating 50% of the proceeds from their collaboration for #GivingTuesday, benefitting Krewe of the Knights of Sant' Yago in Tampa, Florida and the East Los Angeles Rising Youth Club.

We were honored to be able to catch up with Vella and talk to her about her new single, as well as to witness a stunning exclusive acoustic performance of the song, filmed just for Sweety High. Sweety High: What was the inspiration behind "Blue"?

Vella: The inspiration behind the song was a past relationship I was in, so we wanted to make an upbeat happy song about it! And we then decided to call it "Blue"!

 

SH: Why is #GivingTuesday important to you?
Vella: I think it's very important to give back! For giving back this Christmas season, I'm raising money for a couple of charities from my hometown and here in L.A.! All my streaming proceeds from "Blue" will be going to those charities.

 

SH: What was it like working with Macy Gray? What made you want to work with her? 
Vella: She is absolutely amazing. Being able to work with her was such a treat! I learned so much from her when it came to writing.

 

SH: Who do you consider your musical inspirations? Why do they inspire you?

Vella: I have a bunch! But if I had to pick a couple it would be Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, The Beatles and Elton John! They all inspire me in a different way. Janis her vocals and her style, Amy her vocals and writing and Elton for his style!

 

SH: Which artists would you like to work with in the future?

Vella: Elton John, Miley Cyrus and Adele!

 

SH: What is something that you would like to try in the future with your music? 

Vella: I would like to try doing more R&B soul! I think it would be really cool to try it out.

 

SH: What is something that you want to say to your fans? 

Vella: I would thank them for sticking around and listening to my music! It really means a lot to me. Forever grateful for you guys!

 

SH: Where do you see yourself in the next year?

Vella: I see myself making an album and doing more live shows!
