Victor Ray Dishes on the Toxic Relationship That Inspired ‘Comfortable’ and What’s Next in 2024

English singer-songwriter Victor Ray had a sensational 2023, and he's wasting no time in 2024 with the release of his first single of the year, Comfortable."

The new track makes powerful use of Victor's signature epic and soulful sound, driven by his soaring vocals to tell a melancholy tale of pain and compacency. It's about how even the worst situations can start feeling comfortable, making it feel impossible to break out of them, and it's all too relatable. It's just the beginning of the next stage of Victor's musical momentum, and we got the chance to ask the artist all about the track and what it means to him in the interview below.

The Story Behind 'Comfortable'

Victor Ray: The song is based on a time where I was in a relationship without realizing it was toxic. In my defense, it was my first one, so you live and learn.

What 'Comfortable' Means

VR: Like most of my songs, "Comfortable" is a real story that I feel a lot of people can connect with—not just in a romantic sense, but just toxic situations in general. I hope it can make some people pull the wool off of their eyes.

Victor's Favorite Lyric

VR: "Pride lays the rules that I choose to abide, latching on tempting me to the high. Though it's flawed by design I give in."

On the Timing of 'Comfortable'

VR: It's a track I've had for three years and I've been waiting for the perfect time to release it. 2024 is the year in which I make my stamp in this industry and "Comfortable" is a song I know will get people's attention.

What's Next

VR: I've got a European tour in March! Hopefully a few more headline shows here in London this year as well. I plan on releasing two projects this year, my third and fourth EPs, which will close the opening chapter of my career and bleed into the next phase.

Final Thoughts

VR: To be honest, it's my favorite song I've written as of now. And the production on this track is so special. I can't wait for everyone to hear it!
