9 Easy Ways to Be Nicer to Yourself Every Day

It's incredibly easy to get down on yourself.

We all forget we're human and quickly berate ourselves for the smallest mistakes. Hey, relax. You're doing your best. Plus, if you're not going to treat yourself with respect, how can you expect others to do the same?

Below are a handful of things you can do every day that will help strengthen your relationship with yourself. You're stuck with yourself forever, so you better learn to love who you are.

Say "No"

If you don't want to do something, don't do it. You don't have to say "yes" to always hanging out with your friends, especially if they want to do something you strongly dislike. If they're really your friends, they'll understand why you chose to sit one out.

Learn to Be Comfortable Being Alone

Listen, people are draining. Innately selfish, we loving receiving more than we enjoy giving. Spending time away from others every so often will help limit the amount of negativity in your life, while simultaneously improving your relationship with yourself. Get to know yourself a bit better by scheduling some alone time when you feel drained by those around you.

Treat Yourself

Throw an at-home spa day for yourself or buy yourself a pint of ice cream and go to town. Whatever will make you feel better, do it. You don't need to spend a ton of money, but indulge yourself as often as you can. After all, you deserve it.

Give Yourself Compliments

Every morning, give yourself a little compliment. Whether you're digging how your hair looks or you're obsessing over the outfit you threw together, let yourself know how proud you are of yourself. This will start you off on a positive note early on, which will carry through the rest of the day.

Meditate

At the end of the day, or when you really need it, try to meditate. Find a quiet space to silence your mind and just focus on your breathing. Take this time to really connect with yourself and be aware of how you feel. Meditating regularly will help you feel so much better about yourself, trust us.

Acknowledge Your Achievements

Often we see other people's success and feel bad about where we are in life. Don't forget that you've achieved some incredible things, too. Anytime you do anything that's worth celebrating, celebrate it. Got a good grade on your test? Celebrate. Landed that job you always wanted? Yep, celebrate. Be your own cheerleader!

Don't Compare Yourself to Others

It's so easy to compare yourself to those around you, but that's not healthy. You are your own unique person, remember that. Everyone is on their own path and we all figure it out our own ways. Just because you aren't as popular as your best friend or as academically accomplished as your siblings, doesn't mean you're any less amazing than they are.

Talk to Someone

Holding in your feelings, especially negative ones, is never something you should do. Acknowledge how you feel and talk it out with a therapist, a friend or a family member. It's not fair to yourself to keep negative emotions bottled inside until they tear you apart. When in doubt, talk it out.

Be Nice to Everyone Around You

Being kinder to literally everyone will only make you feel better. We get back what we put out in the universe. So if you're mean to people, even total strangers, your relationship with yourself will surely be disastrous. Treat people the way you want to be treated and your self-compassion will soar.

Not sure if doing these things daily will help? HERE's how it dramatically improved one girl's life.
