4 Reasons to Travel While You’re Young

Traveling is one of the best ways that you can invest in yourself, and the Instagram pics you'll get out of it aren't too bad either.

Traveling while you're young can seem scary, especially if it's your first time leaving the country or visiting another state, but it's worth it for so many reasons. Read on to explore just a few of these reasons why you should travel while you're young.

1. You Have the Time

A lot of us don't realize how unique it is to be given extended break periods from school that just don't exist in the "real world" of full-time jobs and other responsibilities. Spring break, winter break and of course summer break are all perfect times to travel, and many travel sites even cater specifically to students who are going abroad during these times. If you can't go all the way to a different country, try asking your parents if you can organize a family trip to another state or even a different city in your own state while you've got the time away from studying and other distractions.

2. It Gives You Life Experience

Traveling somewhere new, especially if it's to a different country, gives you life experience that simply can't be compared to anything else. Not only does it give you something you can talk about on college applications, but it also helps you learn new things that will help you succeed in school, life and beyond. There's a reason your friend who went to Paris for two days can't stop talking about it—traveling really does change you (for the better).

3. You Have More Opportunities

There are so many websites and programs out there designed specifically for high school students and young adults who want to travel, especially for overseas destinations. Most of these will host guided tours and even provide convenient payment options so that you don't have to dish out all your summer job savings all at once (or ask your parents for a really big birthday present this year), and it's also a great way to meet new people or create amazing memories with friends who go along with. Even if you choose to come up with your own itinerary, you can still make the most out of benefits like student discounts and special hostels or other safe places to stay that are designed just for young people.

4. It Might Just Inspire You to Pursue Something New

You learn so much not just about a new place when you travel, but also about yourself. Whether that's a new hobby, something you may wish to study in college or even somewhere you want to move when you get the chance, it's all for the better. Take photos and maybe even start a travel journal to remember the things that struck you the most, and see where these new passions take you.
