How the Struggles of a Long-Distance Relationship Inspired Will Swinton’s ‘Can’t Let Go’
New Zealand singer-songwriter Will Swinton has been rapidly on the rise with a series of viral hits, and we firmly believe that his latest track, "Can't Let Go," has the potential to be his biggest yet.
The track embodies Will's signature sense of vulnerable songwriting, with a rousing, folksy sound as Will sings about the turmoil caused by a long-distance relationship. It was written in the midst of his own LDR, traveling back and forth between Auckland, New Zealand, and Los Angeles to pursue his music career while struggling with being unable to be beside the one he cares about most. Today's release also comes with a hazy, nostalgic music video directed by Will himself, and we had the pleasure of chatting with him about the track in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'Can't Let Go'
Will Swinton: It's about navigating the complexities of a long-distance relationship.

What 'Can't Let Go' Means
WS: It's a reflection of the emotional struggles and challenges that come with being separated from someone you care deeply about. The thing I love about music is that listeners can listen to a song and make their own meaning. I hope it resonates with anyone who has ever felt distant from someone they love.

Will's Favorite Lyric
WS: Probably the opening line, "World's apart, but I'll find away." I've been living a very non-permanent lifestyle, traveling back and forth from New Zealand, which makes it hard to maintain relationships when you don't have a permanent home. I think that line perfectly captures the feeling of trying to make something work despite the distance and challenges.

What's Next
WS: I'm very excited. There's a lot more music on the way. I'm dropping an EP later this fall and then I'm excited to start rolling out some of this new uptempo music.
Final Thoughts
WS: I made this track nearly two years ago. It started off as a little idea that we didn't end up going back into until recently. I'm always making music and it's fun when you stumble on an old idea that's inspiring.
