The annual event from the same academy that presents the Oscars serves to present awards to honor worthy individuals, without the time limits that the Oscars impose, allowing the winners to speak for as long as they need! The event even presents Oscar statuettes to some of the winners!

The Governors Awards present the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award for creative producer, Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for great humanitarian efforts and Honorary Awards for amazing contributions to film!

Among this year's winners were Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, of Me Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle fame and singer-songwriter, actor and social activist Harry Belafonte.

Zendaya wore a flowing black and white gown to the event, designed by Project Runway winner Christian Siriano. During the event, she had the chance to pose for a photo with Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte and Reggie Hudlin, who each had a massive role to play in the film and music industry!
